European Development Days 2010

In the framework of the European Development Days (EDD) that took place on 6th - 7th December 2010, EUNIDA organized a round table to discuss the role of networks in the policies of tomorrow, through the prism of the actual situation in Haiti.

The panel gathered a group of experts and members of European networks to discuss the contribution of networks to EU development policies, and to tackle the following questions: what have we learnt about the costs and benefits of working together? Which form of organisation works best? How does the context of European Development Cooperation affect the future of networks?

Jürgen Dierlmaier, EUNIDA President, and Jean-Pierre Luxen, Belgian Technical Cooperation BTC-CTB, made a welcome address and there was an introduction by Charles Goerens (MEP), Member of the of the Development Committee.

Dr. Bernd Eisenblätter, Managing Director, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, EUNIDA member, Enrique Mendizabal, Networks’ specialist, Overseas Development Institute (ODI), Ross Mountain, Director General, Development Assistance Research Associates (DARA) and, Andreas Vogt, Membership and Networking Manager discussed the role of networks. The panel was moderated by Simon Maxwell.

Throughout the discussion, the speakers shared their points of view on the general features of networks, and their added value in the context of European external aid. The audience was invited to share their experience with networking and of the post-crisis situation in Haiti and a lively and interactive panel-audience discussion ensued.
